A study in contrast, the Cross My Heart collection is created in collaboration with Sammi Jefcoate – where softness meets edge and symbolism runs through every detail.
In honor of this special new launch, we sat down with Sammi to talk through the collection – how it came to life, what it means, and how she’s thinking about wearing it.
At its core, the piece sits in contrast: soft and sharp, romantic and a little dark. Roses, thorns, and a dagger; each element carrying its own meaning, but working together as one.
q&a with sammi jefcoate:
What does this piece mean to you?
“For me (if you're one for symbolism), this piece represents the co-existence of love & beauty (represented by the roses) alongside pain & death (the dagger). Of course, it can also just be seen as a beautiful piece of jewellery...I'm personally into both.”
How does it fit into your styling?
“As someone that wears jewellery everyday, I adore when pieces have versatility to be styled. The dagger pendant can be clipped onto pieces you already own - whether that be a bracelet, earring or necklace - or adorned perfectly onto the sterling silver lariat. The use of mixed metals is a concept I have always been into and the entire design (& this was crucial in the early stages when Jill & I first spoke) uses both sterling silver & 14k yellow gold. Speaking of versatility, the lariat also offers this, being able to be clipped onto different sections of the necklace & thus worn in different ways. It leans into my gothic soul & I can't wait to start wearing her.”
Elements you love most of the design?
“I adore the super elongated chain of the lariat - this was a key aspect to me when I first sketched out this piece. I've always been drawn to roses (likely the flower I have tattooed on me the most) & I love the juxtaposition of the roses with the dagger.”
Why do you like partnering with TDW?
“Partnering with Jillian and Til Death World is a such a creative & understood experience. There is a deep connection between us both when it comes to designing (Libra power!!) and it is clear how important details are to us both. I know that every aspect I mention will not be overlooked or under-explored - the synergy is effortless. It's a collaboration I am immensely proud of & grateful for.”
jillian, founder & creative director, also shared her perspective on the collection and the symbolism behind it:
“It’s always a dream to collaborate with Sammi. She has a strong point of view and knows what she likes and doesn’t like which makes my job so much easier. And I love her pov! I am always drawn to the deep symbology of Victorian era motifs which I wanted to bring to the Cross My Heart Charm/Lariat. The vines of thorns and roses twisting around the dagger’s handle symbolize deep love and this idea of protecting what you hold dearest. Garnets represent love and passion and many believe they safeguard travelers who wear them. While onyx is often a remembrance stone worn to honor a loved one and is believed to bring the wearer emotional strength. I created them in two sizes: one is a definite statement piece while the smaller size feels like an everyday piece you can put on and never take off.”
